If you joined us for our recent creative session at the shop, you know that plant care is about so much more than just a watering schedule, it’s about the vibe you want to create in your home. Whether you’re a seasoned collector or just starting your urban jungle, a plant care vision board is a powerful tool to help you visualize your growth.
For those who couldn’t make it to the workshop, don’t worry! We’re breaking down the process so you can manifest your dream indoor garden right from your home.
Sometimes we buy plants on impulse because they look pretty at the shop, only to realize they don't fit our home's light or our personal style. A vision board helps you:
- Curate an aesthetic: Do you like more tropical leafy plants, or maybe more desert-like plants?
- Plan your Space: Visualize how specific plants will look in any corner of your home you want to add some green to.
- Set care intentions: Move from "stressed plant parent" to "intentional caretaker."
You don't need a green thumb to be a great artist! Grab these supplies:
- A poster board, corkboard, or even a digital canvas (like Canva or Pinterest).
- Old magazines (look for home decor or nature magazines).
- Photos of your current plant collection, and maybe even photos from online of a “dream” collection.
- Scissors, glue, and markers.
1. Define Your "Plant Personality"
Are you a "low-maintenance" plant parent who prefers Snake Plants and clean lines? Or a "Maximalist plant parent" who plants everywhere you can put one? Start by clipping images that represent the feeling of your dream space.
2. Identify Your Goal Plants
Every plant parent has a "Wish List." Find photos of those dream plants, maybe a variegated Monstera or a big statement plant, and place them in the center of your board. This represents where you want your collection to go.
3. Add Your "Care Mantras"
Plant care is a form of self-care. Use markers to write down intentions like:
- "Check the soil before I pour."
- "Grow at your own pace."
- "New leaves are coming."
4. Map the Light
Ohio light can be tricky! Dedicate a corner of your board to "light mapping." Group photos of low-light plants (like ZZ plants) together and high-light plants (like Succulents) in another section to remind you where they belong in your Columbus home.
